The short answer
Freshchat is a support messaging product for teams: a shared inbox across web chat, mobile apps, email, social messengers, SMS and WhatsApp, with Freddy AI on top, priced per agent. Its free plan covers up to 10 agents and includes chat in mobile apps. DevReply does one thing: a native “message the developer” chat inside your app, answered from one inbox, with an MCP server so your own AI agent can read and work that inbox. It doesn't charge per seat or per AI session. If you want many channels and a built-in AI bot, Freshchat is the stronger product. If you want your own agent working your app's inbox at a flat price, DevReply is.

What a small team pays
Take a team of three answering one app for a year, at the list prices above:
- DevReply: $0 on Free while you stay under 50 conversations a month. Pro is $490 a year for the whole team, with your agent reading, sorting and replying. Adding a fourth or a tenth teammate costs nothing.
- Freshchat: $0 on Free, which fits three agents and includes the mobile SDK, without Freddy AI. Growth, the first plan with Freddy AI Agent, is $684 a year (3 agents × $19 × 12) or $828 billed monthly (3 × $23 × 12). The first 500 AI sessions are included; after that it's $49 per 100. A fourth teammate on Growth adds $228 a year.
- Freshdesk Omni, which adds a ticketing helpdesk to the same chat, starts at $29 per agent per month billed yearly: $1,044 a year for three.
So on price alone, Freshchat's free plan is a real option for a small team that answers by hand. The difference shows up once you want AI help: Freshchat charges for it per session and per seat, while DevReply Pro is one flat price and the AI is the agent you already use.
Why DevReply for mobile apps
Both products put a chat inside your app, on every plan. The differences are in what happens around it:
- Your own AI agent, over MCP. DevReply has an MCP server. On Pro, the agent you already use reads conversations, tags and sorts them, drafts replies and sends them as your app allows, with no per-session or per-seat AI fee. On every plan it can set DevReply up for you, from creating the app to writing the integration from the app's setup guide.
- SwiftUI and Jetpack Compose, the same screen everywhere. DevReply's chat is written in SwiftUI on iOS and Jetpack Compose on Android, and the React Native and Flutter packages open those same native screens, so every platform behaves the same.
- Context made for apps. Device, OS, app version and language arrive with each message, plus anything your app passes, like the user's plan. Open the chat from a paywall with a draft and an error code, and the conversation shows them as “Opened with”.
- Reach the user after they leave. Replies arrive live while the chat is open, then as a push or a bubble over the app, and by email on Pro if they left one, with a button that opens the conversation back in the app.
- Accounts the way the stores expect. Log in with your own user id, log out on sign-out so the next person starts clean, and delete a user from the app, the inbox or your backend, as Apple requires. The chat speaks 34 languages, including Hebrew and Arabic right to left.
Where Freshchat is stronger
- A generous free plan. Up to 10 agents for $0, with the mobile SDK. DevReply's free plan has unlimited teammates but caps at 50 conversations a month.
- Channels. Email on every plan, and from Growth: Facebook, Instagram, SMS, WhatsApp, LINE and more in the same inbox. DevReply is in-app and web chat only, with email notifications to users.
- Built-in AI and self-service. Freddy AI Agent answers on its own, and the SDK has FAQs. DevReply has no help center and no AI bot of its own: you bring your agent.
- Team features and a wider suite. Routing, SLAs, reporting and dashboards, and the rest of Freshworks, like Freshdesk Omni for ticketing and Freshcaller for phone.
- Maturity. Freshworks is far older and bigger. DevReply is new, made by Code Axolot for our own apps first. Some things are still coming: webhooks so your agent answers around the clock, and in-app nudges, both planned for Scale.
Which one to pick
- Pick DevReply if your users are mostly in an iOS or Android app, you or a small team answer them, and you want your own coding agent to set up and work the inbox at a flat price.
- Pick Freshchat if you need WhatsApp, social or SMS alongside in-app chat, want a built-in AI bot and FAQs, or want a free plan for a team that answers everything by hand at higher volume.
Try DevReply free with your own app: no card, unlimited teammates, and the native SDKs on the free plan. Coding agents can read everything about it in llms.txt.
